We wanted to get to Buck's again because it had been a while since we had the opportunity to go out for a really good steak. And the sirloin was excellent—good beef prepared simply and perfectly. But one of the things we like about Buck's (named for owner/chef Tim Buckingham, a Moab native) is that, yes, you can get a great steak for $30, but if that's a bit of a financial stretch you can have one of their burgers, starting at $8.95, or amazingly good buffalo meatloaf, southwest shepherd's pie, or elk stew, all under $20. That makes Buck's one of the best dinner values in town. Décor in the large dining room is unpretentious, with the subtle western look of wood—vigas, tables, and chairs—and local art, with soft country music in the background. Oh, did we mention dessert? The port flan topped with caramel sauce alone is worth the trip to Moab.
