Accommodations in Monaco are sumptuous in every respect -- including the price. A less exciting but cheaper option is to look at midrange hotel chains. Since opening in 2007, Novotel Monte-Carlo (tel. 377-99-99-83-00; www.novotel.com) has flourished on boulevard Princesse-Charlotte near Monte-Carlo's train station. More luxurious is the popular Le Méridien Beach Plaza (tel. 377-93-30-98-80; www.lemeridienmontecarlo.com) on avenue Princesse-Grace overlooking Larvotto Beach.
Alternatively, you'll find prices come down as you literally step across the French border to Beausoleil and Cap d'Ail. The Rivera Marriott Hotel La Porte de Monaco (tel. 04-92-10-67-67; www.marriott.fr) overlooks Cap d'Ail's yachting port and is across the street from Monaco's football stadium.
