Getting There

By Bus -- There is one direct bus a day from the Stathmos Leoforia Peloponnisou, at 100 Kifissou in Athens, to Gefyra (on the mainland directly across the causeway from Monemvassia); there are six daily buses via Sparta. By Car -- Take the National Road from Athens-Corinth-Tripolis. Head south to Monemvassia via Sparta. Allow 6 hours for the trip.

Fast Facts

The National Bank of Greece in Gefyra (on the shore across the causeway from the old town) exchanges currency and has an ATM. You'll find the post office and the OTE in Gefyra. For first aid, call tel. 27320/61-204. The police are at 137 Spartis (tel. 27320/61-210). The Malvasia Travel Agency (malvtrvl@otenet.gr; tel. 27320/61-752; fax 27320/61-432) in Gefyra has several helpful English-speaking staff members.
