Arriving -- The most efficient way to reach Mont-St-Michel is to drive. From Caen, follow A84 southwest towards Avranches, eventually taking the D43 and following signs to its end at Mont St-Michel. Total driving time from Paris is about 3 1/2 hours.

There are no direct trains between Paris and Mont St-Michel. One option is to take a local TER train from Paris’s Gare St-Lazare to Caen, then another local TER train to Pontorson, where a 2.80€ shuttle bus ferries passengers directly to the new visitor center. Another is to take a TGV (fast train) from Paris Montparnasse to Rennes in Brittany, from where a coach takes you to Mont St-Michel for 15€ each way. For train information, visit www.oui.sncf or call tel. 36-35 (.40€/min.).

Visitor Information -- The Tourist Information Center is Lieu-dit le Bas Pays, Beauvoir (www.bienvenueaumontsaintmichel.com; tel. 02-14-13-20-15).
