Fully remodeled in late 2014 and early 2015, the Hotel Pacific has gone from a somewhat rumpled wannabe to a hotel with real character. The new decor varies by room type, but always includes a large, comfy couch; shiny wood floors; a wood burning fireplace; a fridge and microwave; and something that plays up the adobe feel of the place (perhaps a woodsy four poster bed, or a curvy wrought iron chair). Each room has its own outdoor space, either a walled patio or a balcony, though many guests prefer to hang out in the hotel's lushly planted courtyard, with its little fountain and chairs. Bathrooms come with both a shower and a tub, though the shower is, oddly, in a separate room with the toilet. The only downside to staying here is street noise, so ask for a room that faces away from the busy road out front. The block-wide hotel is a favorite of conventioneers as it's a short stroll from the convention center (and likely because it's possible to whip up a small meal in the rooms).
