You'll dine with the locals at this homey, two-room seafood specialist that's a short drive from the tourist chaos of Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row. All of the ingredients are super-fresh (in fact, if it hasn't come right off the boats, they won't serve it) and much of the food is cooked in a wood-burning oven which gives such items as grilled oysters and fish fillets a wonderful smokiness. Also highly recommended: the cioppino, a tomatoey fish stew that's jam-packed with every creature that inhabits Monterey Bay. You can show up for lunch without reservations, but will encounter a line out the door for the open-seating bar seats at dinner (the tables will be booked), so do call in advance.
