Montserrat is most easily reached from Antigua. Gerald's Airport, a latter-day, postmillennium replacement for the one that was rendered unusable during the searing pyroclastic flows, opened in 2005 near a hamlet on the north side of the island. Winair (tel. 866/466- 0410; wings in several times daily on the 20-minute flight from Antigua, using 19-seat Twin Otters. There is also ferry service from Antigua's Heritage Quay; the hour-long trip runs twice daily, three times a week, for $90 roundtrip.
