Planning a trip to Moosehead Lake

Getting There -- Greenville is about 160 miles north and west from Portland. Take the Maine Turnpike to the Newport/Palmyra exit (exit 157), then head north on Route 7/11 to Route 23 in Dexter. Continue north from Dexter to Route 6/15 near Sangerville, then follow route 6/15 to Greenville.

Visitor Information -- The Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce (tel. 888/876-2778 or 207/695-2702; www.mooseheadlake.org) maintains a helpful information center in Greenville. In addition to a selection of the usual brochures, the center has files and bookshelves of maps, trail information, wildlife guidebooks, and videos. From Memorial Day through mid-October, it's open Wednesday through Monday, 10am to 4pm; it's on your right as you come into town, next to the Indian Hill Trading Post. Call for hours during the rest of the year.
