Chapelle Notre-Dame de Vie

The most romantic site in Mougins is surely this medieval chapel. It lies 1.5km (1 mile) southeast of Mougins. It was built in the 12th century and reconstructed in 1646. Its tree-dappled grounds inspired local resident Picasso and were once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. More importantly, the priory next door was once Picasso’s studio and private residence for the last 12 years of his life. On his death in 1973, the art collection inside was worth in excess of $1 billion. More prosaically, in 2017 his sprawling estate was sold to a merchant banker from London.
