Tucked away on a side street en route to the shipyard, a low-slung shingled building with minimal signage and a view of the waterfront’s grittier section, Peter Trout’s is funky little gem of an MDI tavern. There’s a mildly Southern tinge to the menu, which includes terrific fried chicken, a Nashville hot chicken sammy, crab cakes, excellent potato salad, and a wedge salad with pork belly. It’s an indulgent place, with a long list of Maine beers, a few picnic tables out front, and a laid-back, irreverent staff. One of the most relaxed and delightful places to eat on MDI.
