The must-have meal in Mulegé is the traditional pig roast. It's an event, with the pig roasted Polynesian-style in a palm-lined open pit for hours, generally while guests down a few beers and the mariachis wail. The classic roast at the Hotel Serenidad (tel. 615/153-0530) is still number-one: Every Saturday at 7:30, it's all you can eat including a small margarita and dessert for 206 pesos. The pig crackles as well at Las Casitas restaurant .
Mulegé's best tacos are reportedly found at the stand adjoining Las Casitas or at the popular Taqueria Doney, at Madero and Romero Rubio, just as you enter town, past the depósito (warehouse) on the right.
