There are many reasons to stay at this hotel, but location is at the top of the list. Hotel Schlicker practically sits on Marienplatz, Munich’s heart and soul (and where the city’s famous Christmas Market is held). The famed Hofbräuhaus is almost next door, the fabulous Viktuelenmarkt, Munich’s outdoor market, is around the corner, and the area is loaded with restaurants and visitor attrctions. Plus, the Marienplatz U-Bahn station is steps away, so you can easily get anywhere in the city. The staff at this traditional hotel, established over 400 years ago and run by the same family since 1890, are extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Some of the rooms have recently been renovated with designer fabrics in muted color schemes; these are the ones you should ask for because the others, while perfectly serviceable, look dated. The breakfast buffet that’s included in the room rate is unusually good for a hotel in this price range. Street noise on Tal can be a distraction, so consider booking a room on the quiet inner courtyard.
