It's a curious thing to think about the merger of a nacho and a hippo, but this rather raucous and fun establishment makes it all seem quite natural. The interior has the look of a brightly colored roadhouse, replete with artfully arranged twist-off beer caps and multi-colored tabletops that are a bit like a Santa Fe sunset on LSD. You can grab a table, but if it's just a duet or troika, why not step up to the bar? The standouts here are the tacos, served with a choice of flour or corn tortillas. Top honors here go to the "Kamikaze" (seared tuna, seaweed salad, and wasabi-jalapeño mayo) and the "Kahuna" (teriyaki chicken, pineapple salsa, and spicy mayo). You can also elect for one of the larger meals, such as the "Hippo Plato Mas" (sautéed peppers and onions complemented by shrimp or steak with rice and black beans). Of course, there are drink specials galore, and the house margaritas are always $3.
