This spa/"resort," in the heart of Calistoga, is one of the best deals in Napa Valley—and also offers all the spa treatments the town is famous for. At this institution, your money buys a simple, immaculately clean and comfy room (some with kitchenettes) along with access to multiple hot-spring pools. Buildings are distinctly 1950s-motel-style (standard room sizes, walls of brick tile, and a vintage neon sign out front), but the resort has gone to extra lengths to upgrade the rooms to a modern standard (think flatscreen TVs, iPod docking stations, nice textiles). The patios and outdoor courtyards are well-groomed, fitting places to unwind before exploring the shops and food along Lincoln Avenue. If you stay here, you can avail yourself of a standard pool plus a pair (indoor and outdoor) of pools fed by mineral water. Then, of course, there’s this place’s famously medicinal mud bath spa. The resort also maintains a few multi-room cottages nearby, which are terrific for families and well-priced.
