For those who’d like to try star chef Thomas Keller’s cuisine (see The French Laundry) but also pay rent this month, Ad Hoc is the solution. Most famous for its fried chicken dinners (served only on Mon), the restaurant offers a daily changing, prix fixe menu, served family style. The fare ranges across the globe for inspiration—one day you might get jambalaya, another day the menu will feature shrimp scampi—the one constant being the high quality of both the ingredients and the cooking. Want to go even more casual? Pop by the adjoining eatery, Addendum, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday between 11am and 2pm to buy a fabulous, homey $17 boxed lunch of ribs, pulled pork, or fried chicken (and sometimes lobster rolls), which you can take to go or eat in a grassy area dotted with picnic tables. (Tip: You can also order them online and pop in to pick them up. Hello picnic perfection!)
