A country-chic dining room and contemporary seasonal cuisine make this a favorite locals’ spot in St. Helena, especially for brunch. But anytime’s a good time to indulge in the generous servings of hearty, locally inspired American fare such as pork hash (at brunch) or blackened trout with green tomatoes. The Heritage St. Louis Ribs with green-apple coleslaw and barbecue sauce is a specialty worth devouring. Happy hour, held from 4 to 6pm Monday through Thursday, is a fun way to kick off the evening, or nosh through a complete meal, with $3.50 beer, $9 to $10 house wines, and a menu of filling nibbles like a fully loaded charcuterie board, wings, and deviled eggs. An adjoining cafe opens earlier for caffeine addicts, and a general store is full of edible mementos.
