It’s a quirky destination, but oh, what a view. Set on 210 rural acres, mostly meadows and woods, with five hiking trails, it offers an incredible vista of miles of rolling hills (take a look at Instagram @fruitlandsmuseum). The organization is dedicated to sharing information about the lives of the Transcendentalists, the Shakers, Native Americans, and the artists of the Hudson River School of landscape painting—all folks who had a deep connection to nature—and each group has its own museum. There’s also a separate visitor center. A covered-patio café is open for lunch features salads, sandwiches, and—again—that view.
