Apple picking starts in this region in late August, and by mid-September pears are usually ready, too. There are orchards throughout Nashoba Valley, including in Harvard, Bolton, and here in Stow. Honey Pot Hill is a mid-sized operation, accommodating busloads of schoolchildren along with individual guests, and it still feels old-timey. It also has blueberry bushes, which come into season in July for picking. Pick-your-own is cash only. Late August through mid-November, the orchard maintains a Big Green Monster Maze made up of 3,000 hedges—it has six bridges and a lookout gazebo and takes an hour to get through. A smaller Mini Monster Maze is a replica of the maze at England’s Hampton Court, a Tunnel Maze serves smaller kids, and there are hayrides. A courtyard next to the farm store has sheep, goats, and bunnies for viewing.
