It’s hard to find a place with more character than the Carabeo, which occupies a former schoolhouse in Nerja’s atmospheric old fisherman’s quarters. Owners have done an admirable job of mixing antiques and art to make a comfortable retreat. But however charming the quarters, Nerja is really about the sea, and Carabeo delivers on that front also. The property sits on a cliff overlooking the water and is only about a 5-minute walk to a swimming beach. With so few rooms, the owners could make each unique, but they are all fairly large with rich fabrics and solid wood furniture. Several have a private terrace or balcony.
