It’s not luxurious and the decor is on the fussy side, but the family-owned Creole townhouse boasts balconies with views, guesthouse warmth, and captivating history—all of which infuse it with a slightly sexy vibe. Maybe it’s because it’s the original House of the Rising Sun, and the spot where a young Jimmy Buffett first, ahem, saw the sun rise as a man (both rumors, but we choose to believe). Free parking (a few blocks away, but still in the FQ) is a big bonus for drive-in visitors; so are the small, hard-to-find single rooms for solo travelers on a budget. Some rooms are pretty dark. Request one with brick walls, the better to feel the history.
