The three 1890s buildings are humble, funky, old, slightly crumbling, and not for everyone. But if you’re a non-partying budget traveler and don’t demand spick-and-span, you’ll appreciate the rare combination of value, location, pool, and even the offbeat charm (if the owner is around, chat him up for some great tales of yore). Some rooms are downright spartan (no A/C), while others are larger and even furnished with antiques; upkeep is imperfect. Keep expectations in check (generally, and specifically regarding the continental breakfast), and don’t overpay for accommodations during a festival—that will only leave you bitter.
