For visitors looking for the “real” New Orleans, here’s a taste. Two, actually. Bayou Beer Garden is a neighborhood bar with a big, covered backyard deck, big screens, a big beer list, and regular sized, unfancy food. The sister wine bar, connected by a walkway, has a slightly upper scaler atmosphere and food (Beer Garden = wings and jalapeno poppers; Wine Garden = charcuterie and popcorn escargots). Either is a chill way to while away a couple of hours with a local crowd. They’re a short Uber hop if you’re checking out City Park; a short walk to Mandina’s or Liuzza’s. Hit up both and you’re practically a local yourself.
