A favorite bar/nightclub for its superb beer and spirits selections, laid-back vibe, and fine bookings. Shows (usually) start on time and feature an occasional, on-the-cusp national or Louisiana act and a wide variety of excellent local acts like magnificent crooner John Boutté, the tight blues of Walter Washington, and breakout bluesy rockers Honey Island Swamp Band. Mostly standing-room only, and the low stage doesn’t help those in the back (maybe that’s why they’re so dang chatty). Tip: The 7pm shows, including Boutté’s Monday residency, may command a small (and so worth it) cover during peak seasons, but most times this well-booked slot is free.
