A favorite bar/nightclub for its superb beer and spirits selections, laid-back vibe, Herman Leonard photographs, and fine bookings. Shows start on time and feature an occasional, on-the-cusp national or Louisiana act and a wide variety of excellent local acts like magnificent crooner John Boutté, the tight blues of Walter Washington, and breakout bluesy rockers Honey Island Swamp Band. Mostly standing-room only, and the low stage doesn’t help those in the back (maybe that’s why they’re so dang chatty). Tip: Boutté’s early Saturday shows now command a small (and so worth it) cover, but most other nights this well-booked slot is free.
