Though this sweet, genuine ice cream parlor celebrated its 100th birthday under 5 feet of water, it’s long since come back—and ostensibly not a thing has changed. Run by the same family since 1905, the Brocatos make rich Italian ice cream and ices, cookies, and pastries amid a wonderful throwback atmosphere. Italian flavors like stracciatella (chocolate chip) and panna cotta are capital-P Perfect; hard-to-find specialties like spumoni and casatta are spot-on; and the fresh lemon ice is legendary (don’t try to decide between that and seasonal fresh fruit ices, blood orange or passionfruit; just get both). After that we get a freshly filled cannoli. Heck yeah, we do. And a slice of the ricotta torta. We tell them it's for a party.
