If you’re in town on the last Saturday of any month, consider a trip to the Palmer Park Arts Market (S. Carrollton and S. Claiborne Aves., last stop on the St. Charles streetcar line; www.artscouncilofneworleans.org; [tel] 504/523-1465). From 10am to 4pm you’ll find paintings, pottery, glass, mosaics, jewelry, handmade frames, and more from quality, juried artists. At the Marigny’s hip Frenchmen Art Market we like the cool leather jewelry and music photography, and couldn’t resist a snap-front shirt embroidered with Big Foot for $35. It’s open Thursday to Saturday 7pm to 1am, and Sunday 6pm to midnight (619 Frenchmen St.; www.frenchmenartmarket.com). Admission to both markets is free and all goods are original, local, and surprisingly affordable.
