Since 2000, Myra Alperson of (has been leading hungry walkers to some of the city’s most delicious neighborhoods. From the Uzbek, Tadjik, and Russian markets of Rego Park, Queens, to the Dominican coffee shops of Washington Heights, Alperson has left no ethnic neighborhood unexplored. Tours are conducted most Saturdays and Sundays, leaving between 11:30am and 1pm. The preferred means of transportation is subway and the tours generally last around 3 hours and cost about $54. Space is limited, so book well in advance. Also look at the offerings of Urban Oyster (www.urbanoyster.com) which mixes history and food on tours of Brooklyn and the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Urban Oyster’s craft beer tour also garners rave reviews. You’ll pay between $60 and $105 for these tours, but we promise you’ll be very full at the end.
