With a dated design sensibility—sparkly wallpaper and pleather headboards in the guestrooms, and an odd wall fountain in the lobby—Artezen doesn’t get our highest marks for its looks. Not that it’s ugly, but its décor, feels like a throwback to the 90’s despite the fact that its brand new. No, what we really like about Artezen are the staff—they genuinely care and seem to truly enjoy their jobs. That translates to a spotless hotel, a warm greeting whenever you hit the lobby, and deeply researched help when a visitor asks a question. The Artezen is also quite well-located, within walking distance of the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, and the 9/11 memorial, and across from subway stations with pretty much all of the major lines, meaning you can be zipping to wherever you’re going in the city in minutes. Final recommendation: there’s a bit less penduluming of rates here than elsewhere.
