A solid budget option, just one block from the subway, BKLYN House’s rooms are surprisingly spacious for the price point, and, while simple in their décor, they’re not depressing, thanks to nice wood floors, and colorful accent walls. Beds are good quality, too. As for the neighborhood,: it’s not one tourists usually seek out, and there are housing projects nearby, but we think it’s acceptably safe and welcoming. No breakfast was being served at press time, but there’s a Mexican food truck permanently parked out front, and guests get free drinks with their meals there if they flash their room keys (it’s open from about 7am to 6pm). The friendly receptionist told me that those who book through Expedia and Hotel Tonight tend to get better rates than those who book direct.
