The name tells the story: this is a hotel that’s adopted country club aesthetics. So the dignified, larger-than-usual rooms (310 square feet at minimum)—duded up in leather, Nantucket blues and big cushy chairs—have prints of racehorses on the walls, and the hall carpeting is a jaunty tartan. Best of all: each room has a mini-kitchen, with a small fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. The hotel doesn’t scream “Big Apple” but it’s a pleasant conceit nonetheless, and the staff bend over backwards to make guests feel like they’re members of the club. The best deals here are the one-bedroom suites, which come with a very sleepable daybed as a couch, and only cost $40 more per night than the regular doubles, good news for traveling threesomes. The hotel is directly across the street from City Center, great for theater lovers.
