The Manhattan “child” of a very popular Brooklyn joint (the Dumbo in the title refers to the “Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass” neighborhood it is in), Hecho is the slow food version of Mexican fare. All of the ingredients are organic, many are locally sourced, and all breads, salsas, and even cheeses are made in house, a fact that elevates even the simplest quesadilla. But you don’t come here for simple fare; the food is more complex and original than that, incorporating such ingredients as roasted bone marrow or huitlacoche mushrooms into the tacos. All of this yummy, healthy stuff is served in an airy, industrial-chic space right on the Bowery.
