Within easy walking distance of both Carnegie Hall and City Center, Molyvos has long been the go-to place for a quick but elegant meal before a show. Deservedly so. Though it’s one of the grandfathers in this always-changing neighborhood, it has kept its standards high, meaning that its mezes (appetizers, such as cold spreads or grilled octopus) are among the tops in town, its spanakopita (spinach pie) is light as a cloud and bursting with flavor, and its moussaka (a sort of lasagna with ground lamb), will make you feel like you’re tasting the dish for the first time. Service can be brusque, but they know how to time the meal so that you get to the curtain on time.
