Overlooking Newport's first beach with beautiful views, Spice Pear is an exquisite venue for a special meal. The Chanler, a Victorian mansion inn high on a bluff, does the hosting. The elegant dining room has just 12 tables, near a grand fireplace and a large open kitchen. Dinner here is like a performance of a world-class orchestra—everything is in sync. This is very fancy food: Suppers might begin with wild Burgundy escargot, followed by a poached Maine lobster and foie gras, and finishing with a seasonally inspired soufflé. Lunches (served in The Veranda) are just as luxe, highlighted by $29 lobster rolls (cherry-smoked bacon, yuzu, and vanilla crème fraiche) and burgers (Kobe beef brisket and Vermont white cheddar). Between the high quality of the cooking and the space's intimate scale, dinner reservations need to be made well in advance.
