Horseback Riding in Nicaragua

Although you may see some of the locals getting around in the rural areas by horse, there is a lack of operators offering organized tours. Your best bet is to stay at a hotel or lodge that conducts its own four-legged excursions. Montecristo River Lodge on the Río San Juan in southeastern Nicaragua is one good option. Another good place for some time in the saddle is the Tisey Reserve, close to Estelí.
