Head to the center of town and rue du Général-Perrier, rue des Marchands, rue du Chapître, and the pedestrian rue de l’Aspic and rue de la Madeleine. A Friday flea market runs from 8am to 1pm in boulevard Jean Jaurès in the town center and a daily food market daily is in Les Halles.

If you have a sweet tooth, go to any pastry shop and ask for the regional almond-based cookies called croquants, or visit Maison Villaret, 13 Rue de la Madeleine (www.maison-villaret.com), specialists in croquants since 1775. A wide range of other local specialties, from Camargue salt to handcrafted knives, can be procured at La Boutique Nîmoise, 5 Rue de la République, (https://epicerie-fine-nimes.fr; tel. 04-66-08-36-61).
