Newberg

The McMinnville Area
For casual and inexpensive meals, try the McMenamins Pub, Hotel Oregon, 310 NE Evans St. (tel. 503/435-3154; www.mcmenamins.com), which serves decent pub fare, plus good microbrews and regional wines. More pub fare, microbrews, and local wines can be had at the Golden Valley Brewery & Pub, 980 E. Fourth St. (tel. 503/472-2739; www.goldenvalleybrewery.com). Good sandwiches and baked goods can be had at the Red Fox Bakery & Café, 328 NE Evans St. (tel. 503/434-5098; www.redfoxbakery.net). The Yamhill & Carlton Area
If you want to have a picnic at one of the Carlton-area wineries, be sure to stop first at The Horse Radish, 211 W. Main St. (tel. 503/852-6656; www.thehorseradish.com), a combination wine bar and gourmet deli that sells wonderful cheeses, cured meats, and artisan breads. There are also small plates to go with the wine they serve here. The Horse Radish is open Monday through Thursday from noon to 6pm, Friday and Saturday from noon to 10pm, and Sunday from 1 to 6pm. Alternatively, you can get good sandwiches at The Filling Station Deli, 305 W. Main St. (tel. 503/852-6687; www.fillingstationdeli.com), which is open Thursday through Tuesday from 7am to 3:30pm (closed Jan to mid-Feb).
The Gaston & Forest Grove Area
You can get decent pub food at the Ironwork Grill, McMenamins Grand Lodge, 3505 Pacific Ave. (tel. 503/992-9533; www.mcmenamins.com), in Forest Grove. This hotel also has picnic tables on the lawn in the summer.
