Despite the name, some rooms at this downtown inn (across the street from the Maritime Inn, above) are a combination of period and contemporary—carved four-poster beds, say and new armchairs. The best, like The Library, are grand rooms with hardwood floors showing off the tiled fireplace and decorative mantel. Less roomy and less expensive are those at the top of the building with sloped ceilings and less ornate furnishings. The new Garden Suite has a luxurious king size bed and a kitchenette; it opens onto a back yard that’s like a private park, it’s so large—totally unexpected in the middle of town. You can’t miss this large, red 1904 Victorian building with the round turret in the heart of Antigonish.
