This is the oceanview hotel in downtown Ocho Rios, a short walk from the action, for those who do not want an all-inclusive beach resort. The best of the large, bright rooms here do, indeed, overlook the ocean—and barely cost more than those overlooking the pool or grassy gardens. However, the hotel sits atop a small cliff with no sand in sight. Never fear: There is a small sunning terrace down by the water, and Mallards Bay Beach is a few blocks' walk away.

This modest but lovely little hotel’s biggest selling point is the excellent and authentic Jamaican cuisine and sea view at the Almond Tree restaurant. Have drinks beforehand at the Swinging Bar (no, not that; the chairs are all small swings hanging from the ceiling).

A note on the rates above: Stays of three nights or longer in “summer” (a generous April 15 to December 15) are 16% off.
