Biking -- Öland is a great cycling country. Although there are Olympic-style athletes who bike the entire 129km (80-mile) stretch of the island, others are less ambitious. Whatever your cycling plans, you'll find seemingly endless cycle tracks along flat roads.
Bike rentals - usually summer-only concession stands - are available near the point where the ferryboat will deposit you from the Swedish mainland.
Golfing -- Ekerum Golf Course, Ekerum, S-387-92 Borgholm (tel. 0485/800-00; www.ecs.net), is 16km (10 miles) south of Borgholm, surrounded by the rolling lushness of an isolated region near the island's center. This course was created in 1991 as part of the Sunwing Ekerem Hotel. It's open April to November. Driving ranges lie between verdant forests and rolling fields. It charges greens fees of between 295SEK and 440SEK ($59-$88/£30-£44) per day, depending on the season. You can choose from an 18-hole course and a 9-hole course that lies immediately adjacent.
