Your best bet is Nahil Mayab Restaurant, on the corner of Santa Ana and Guadalupe streets behind the Shell station (tel. 322-0831; www.nahilmayab.com), a surprisingly upscale all-purpose restaurant and bar serving a range of Latin American dishes and Caribbean classics. The best seats here are located in a pretty garden patio, though the AC keeps the main dining area cool on hot days. The restaurant is closed for dinner on Monday, and for the entirety of Sunday. Another good option is Cocina Sabor (tel. 322-3482), a mostly-locals restaurant that serves up solid Belizean cuisine and fanciful cocktails that get the party going on weekend nights. It’s in southern Orange Walk near L&R Liquor, on the highway.
