Disney Wilderness Preserve
To gain permission to develop swampland, Disney was required to set aside more. Now protected by the Nature Conservancy, the 12,000 marshy acres, once a ranch, constitute part of the headwaters for the Florida Everglades, and they’re scarred by barely more than a 2-hour, 3-mile walking trail through scrub and cypress habitats. It’s a shame the businesslike hours keep people from enjoying it.
