This ongoing real estate tragedy at the top end of I-Drive is struggling to wake from a nightmare that began when it opened in 2001. In 2014, $70 million was sunk into reinventing a bleakly undertenanted mall as a space for a farmer's market, beer hall, and bazaar for artisans making one-of-a-kind stuff. No matter what happens with that scheme, the anchor stores remain interesting: The beloved Ron Jon Surf Shop out of Cocoa Beach; a Sheplers Western Wear for honing that proto-American look; a Toby Keith bar and grill for faking an attitude; and the camping-and-fishing megastore Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World so gargantuan it must be seen to be believed. For minor entertainment, there’s the Putting Edge glow-in-the-dark minigolf course.
