Den Norske Opera & Ballett (Norwegian National Opera and Ballet)
Oslo's premier performing arts center opened in 2008 and is housed in a sleek, multi-award-winning granite, marble, and glass auditorium with sloping flanks and roofs. As the permanent home of Norway's national ballet, opera, and orchestra, there are more than 350 performances each year in a repertoire that encompasses modern dance and classical ballet, jazz, light-hearted operettas and serious opera, chamber and Baroque concerts, plus dance and music shows from across the world. Designed by Norwegian architect Tarald Lundevall (who also built the National September 11 Memorial Museum in New York) the opera house has three main stages, together seating up to 2,000; smaller concerts are held in the foyer as well as on the opera house's sloping roof in summer.
