Visiting the Arts Village -- The centerpiece of the Arts Village Cultural Centre (tel. 345 0065;, on the Queen's Road, is a lakeside Fijian village, complete with thatched roofs over the grand chief's bure (bungalow) and the tallest traditional temple in Fiji. The shows and tours here tend to change. For example, the general manager outlined one set of tours for me, but when I got home, the website said something else. Accordingly, I hesitate to tell you the schedule and cost. Let's just say there are fire-walking shows, boat trips around the village, and tours into the village for visits with Fijians working at carving, weaving, boat building, and other crafts. All are worth doing, so call ahead to see what's going on when. Prices range from F$15 to F$75 (US$9.70-US$49/£5-£25). Children ages 6 to 16 are charged half price.
