One of the most memorable experiences around these parts is a trip out to Hot Springs Cove. The spring is a natural thermal one that flows through five small, steamy pools. There’s also a sizzling waterfall where you can wash your cares away. This can be a delightfully relaxing experience, but take note, it is clothing optional, so there can be the occasional awkward moment. It can also get incredibly crowded in summer, more of a Roman orgy than a serene bonding-with-nature experience. The springs are 67km (42 miles) north of Tofino, and getting there requires either a fairly long boat ride (90 min. each way), some of it in rocky open ocean, or a float-plane trip. Several outfitters offer trips to the springs, including Jamie’s Whaling Station ([tel] 800/667-9913 or 250/725-3919; www.jamies.com).
