Padua is convenient to both Venice and Verona. There isn't a wide choice of desirable hotels in the centro storico (historic center), but you'll pay close to half the rates of comparable accommodations in Venice and find the commute, just 34km (21 miles), an easy and inexpensive one (and often a necessary one when Venice is fully booked).
