The monastery is an easy excursion from Salerno or nearby towns, but few visitors stay the night. We highly recommend stopping for a meal, though: The popular Taverna Il Lupo, Via Municipio (tel. 0975-778376; www.tavernaillupo.it; secondi 7€-12€; closed Sun dinner and all day Mon), is a rustic and welcoming trattoria serving traditional local cuisine. If you do want to stay for the night, the best hotels in town are the atmospheric Villa Cosilinum, Corso Garibaldi, Località Sant'Eligio, 84034 Padula (tel. 0975-778615; www.villacosilinum.it; 100€ double, including buffet breakfast) and Grand Hotel Certosa, Viale Certosa 41, 84034 Padula (tel. 0975-77046; www.certosa.it; 95€ double, including breakfast), each with elegant guest rooms and good restaurants.
