The W

This segment of the Paine Massif is so called because hikers are taken along a trail that forms a W, up three valleys. This trail leads to the park's major geological features -- the Torres, the Cuernos, and Glacier Grey -- and it's the preferred multiday hike for its relatively short hauls and a time frame that requires 4 to 5 days. In addition, those who prefer not to camp or carry more gear than a sleeping bag, food, and their personal goods can stay in the various refugios along the way. Most hikers begin at Hostería Las Torres and start with a day-walk up to the Torres. From here, hikers head to the Los Cuernos refugio and spend the night, or continue on to the Italiano campsite near the base of the valley; then they walk up to French Valley. The next stop is Pehoé refugio, where most spend the night before hiking up to Glacier Grey. It's best to spend a night at Refugio Grey and return to the Pehoé refugio the next day. From here, take the catamaran across Lago Pehoé to an awaiting bus back to Puerto Natales.
