Pelican Inn
Wonderful cypress wood property built just off the beach in the 1840s, best appreciated by veteran B&B lovers who enjoy family-style communal meals. Breakfast and lunch are served on the porch, featuring high-quality Lowcountry cuisine and plenty of socializing. There are hammocks scattered all over the property, a boardwalk to the beach, and beach chairs and boogie boards provided. Rooms are cozy (and air-conditioned), though some share a bathroom—make sure you book an en-suite room if this is important. Perhaps unsurprisingly in this part of the world, a ghost tale is associated with the inn, notably the tale of the “Gray Man”—ask the owners. The inn is open only from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
