Sea View Inn

This old-fashioned beach house oozes local charm, though it’s not for everyone: the property is a little frayed around the edges, there are no TVs or phones in the rooms, and no air-conditioning (not a great option in summer). Yet the rooms are spotless, the staff always helpful, and the private beach is spectacular—lounge in a rocking chair on the veranda to enjoy the view. It’s a bit like staying in your Southern grandma’s house, circa 1950 (it’s actually been here since 1937). All three meals are served as part of the standard plan (food charge is just $20/day), and the food is pretty good—no-nonsense Lowcountry cuisine cooked by the no-nonsense kitchen staff. Note that showers are shared in the main inn, and Wi-Fi is only available in one corner of the back lounge.
