For a stroll in an English garden, see the Acorn Bank Garden with its varied landscape of blooming bulbs, plants, and walled spaces. Its claim to fame is its extensive herb garden, said to be the best in all of northern England. The Acorn Bank Garden is part of an estate dating from 1228 that includes a partially restored water mill, parts of which also date from the 13th century, and a red-sandstone Tudor house (presently not open to the public).
